Why nurses are important?

Nurses have always been playing an integral part in hospitals. The value of nurses cannot be undermined because hospitals can’t run without them. Due to the broad scope of nursing, the US has plenty of nursing programs where thousands of students enroll to make a career in nursing. All sorts of nursing education programs are authorized by the Public Health Service Act. The nursing programs have significantly improved under the government of George W. Bush and Barack Obama.

There is a common perception that nursing is a good career and after the studies, one can land on a job easily. However, statistics are different, and many professionals are unsure of the market situation. Here in this blog, we will be discussing the situation of the nursing career. So, let’s have a look at the facts down below:

The current situation of nursing in the US

It is a fact that there are so many nursing colleges and schools that are offering programs in the US. Over the past 15 years, the number of nursing graduates has increased significantly. According to the Health Resources and Services Administration, 142,000 students passed the NCLEX-RN licensing exam while in 2001, it was just 68,561 students. Throughout this decade, this number has added almost half a million more registered nurses in 2020. In the same way, the number of hospitals has also increased and that created more opportunities for nurses. This indicates that the nursing industry is growing, and nurses have a good chance of getting a job after getting graduate. But modern technology in the medical field has made the nursing field a bit complicated. Hospitals could always use an extra pair of hands but in this economy, it is not possible for hospitals to hire a large number of nurses. The hospitals in the US are really expensive and in order to get a job in prestigious hospitals, a nurse needs to be really qualified with exceptional skills then he or she has a chance to land a job there.

How is the nursing field expected to become saturated?

Some of the experts also said that due to economic changes in recent times and the fact that many old nurses have retired, there is a big scope of nurses in the US right now. These days, nurses can pursue different fields as per their interests and now nurses can even use modern apparatus in the hospitals as well. But at the same time, it is expected that this number will increase in 2025 and there will be more professionally trained nurses than the jobs available. The nursing field will become saturated eventually.

So far, a report suggested that there are only 16 states in the US that will have a shortage of nurses in the near future. And there are 22 states that might see a shortage of licensed practitioner nurses by 2025. But all of this is projected in a model and HHS officials believe that this model doesn’t account for many other factors.
