Literature Review

Research is a logical and systematic search for new and useful information on a particular topic.

It is an investigation of finding solutions to social and scientific problems through objective and systematic analysis.

It is a search for knowledge, that is, a discovery of hidden truths. The information might be collected from different sources like experience, human beings, books, journals, nature, etc. Thus, it can lead to new contributions to existing knowledge.

Some words strike as much fright into my heart as the literature.

To understand the different debates on any specific content, I attempted to read an infinite number of sources. But still, I sometimes wonder that I know all and remember much of what I read.

A literature review is a monumental study that transforms everything that we think we know and understand.

The dissertations contain some of the most concise summaries of significant works, theories, and approaches.

Literature reviews hold a remarkable position in the dissertations as they facilitate the researcher to prove the significant debates in the field. However, literature reviews are sometimes the most complex part of a dissertation.

Literature reviews are crucial because they provide an overview of the substantial works in the field.

The reviews of the literature help to evaluate the research work and also assist in refining any argument.

Going through literature involves skimming much of it. Reading and understanding a monograph requires different skills than reading a novel.

Reading books and relevant articles makes us familiar with the broad methodological approaches, theoretical frameworks, and essential reported research bibliography.

A literature review is a comprehensive viewpoint of different scholars of the same field regarding a specific topic. They use to present their perspectives with facts and figures.

The core of any research is a literature review. It is where we write about previous studies closely related to our study. Past research on a topic is called ‘the literature,’ and the synopsis of that literature is a ‘literature review.’ The literature reviews are the major components of the research.

Only through research, it is possible to make progress in a field.

Research is carried out with the help of study, observation, experiment, analysis, comparison, and reasoning.

Research is, in fact, ubiquitous.

The research seeks predictions of events and explanations, relationships, and theories for them.

Adherence to the three criteria mentioned above enables the process to be called ‘research’ (Goundar, 2012).

Research philosophies or research approaches include qualitative, quantitative, and the academic discipline in which one has been trained.

Why are Literature Reviews Important?

It is crucial to read the reported researches on the content of research interest. Previous research should always back the study. It demonstrates with other research on the topic under review.

It provides the research rationale for why the study is worth being conducted. Also, synthesize a new perspective of the literature and identify the primary methodologies and research techniques used in the field, reporting their advantages and disadvantages.

It places the research within the discipline, indicating that the study is continuing the reported works and worthy of study. It helps to fill the gaps in the research. And it makes the researcher familiar with the related ideas and theories in the field.

It also helps to distinguish what has been already done in the field and what needs to be done.
